A September TechCrunch report compares third-party estimates for the first days of two different mobile launches. Such figures describe the measured windows and markets; they do not establish which assistant is better or its current UK usage.
Functionality and Privacy Design
Meta’s launch announcement describes a dedicated Muse Secure VM and says conversations and VM data are not shared with its advertising systems. It separately announced a future Confidential VM feature. Those are vendor descriptions and plans at the time of the announcement, not an independent audit or confirmation that every planned protection has since shipped.
Market Performance and Meta Muse vs ChatGPT Data
TechCrunch reports Apptopia estimates of 1.8 million Muse downloads and 1.3 million ChatGPT downloads on iOS in the US and Canada during the first 12 days of each app’s respective launch. The report separately discusses US daily active users. Apptopia did not have direct access to Meta’s internal figures. The comparison is scoped by platform, geography and launch age, rather than all-time or current UK adoption.
Industry Context
The launches took place at different times and followed different platform strategies. Restricting one comparison to iOS makes the scope more similar, but does not turn downloads into retained users, measured task quality or a controlled comparison of the assistants. Meta’s own announcement described an initial US rollout; neither that historical statement nor North American estimates establish current availability for every UK account.
